All of us are passionate about something in our lives. We use our passion to get up in the morning, take a shower, brush our teeth, eat a foot long hotdog, spank the kids, yell at out mother in-law, or fart in an elevator going 59 floors. Strong or weak, our passion is a great thing that motivates us. Sometimes, others share our passion. That group of people is called a community. As we project our passion as a group, the community grows and grows. The bigger a community, the more diverse opinions become. There are times when a community splits into smaller sects. Even though the sects have slight differences in opinions, the community still grows strong with passion. When people start loosing faith in their cause, they break away from the community, go to South America and drink Kookaid that kills them. Don’t drink the Koolaid!! Support Star Wars The Old Republic. If you don’t, you will die. I’m just saying, check the facts.
Ok, I’ll turn down the sarcasm a bit. I’m passionate about SWTOR. I want to have faith in the game. My favorite hobby is playing MMOs and I am looking forward to SWTOR. I am afraid I will over hype the game and be devastated when it releases. On the other hand, I want to enjoy the greatest time as a blogger waiting for a game, the hype stage. This is the only time I can let my imagination run wild. In a few months I will be playing the game and I will know for a fact what the game is like. This time I can exaggerate, speculate, fornicate, or other exciting things that rhyme wait.
This is a time we can make the game anything we want. We can lay in bed at night and dream of what SWTOR will be like. We can mold the community with our hopes and dreams. Who cares if the game might suck? Who cares if it has a chance to fail? Why worry about the negative. This is a time of excitement and hopes. In a few months we will loose this experience and we’ll never be able to get it back. I would hate to look back at this time and see how I wasted it on being negative. Even if the game tanks, we can enjoy the prospect of a great game now.
In 2008 I started blogging about Warhammer Online. I loved everything the developers has to say about the game. I wrote stories, exaggerated, dreamed, speculated, rumored, and made some fricken awesome friends. I played the game for about 3 months before I decided I disliked the game. Not once did I regret the time I spent hyping the game. Being a member of the WAR community was one of the best times of my life (sorry sex and kids come way before WAR community ). I met some extraordinary people. People I would consider friends. I want the SWTOR community to be like that. If I was artistic enough to make a widget on my side bar that said, “Damn Proud Member of TOR Community” I would. It’s time to have fun hyping SWTOR, because this is the only time we will get too.
Take the time to spread the word. The more people that write and talk about it, the more people will write about it. We all love reading blogs, so let’s lay a great SWTOR foundation. Get off your ass and stop drinking the Koolaid!
You take an insteresting stance, sir. Most people are wary of hype: either they follow it and publicly try to derail it, follow it and claim to be dubious of it (secretly we know they want it all to be true), or purposefully avoid it.
I fall into the last category in the case of SWTOR. I love and respect Bioware, and that alone is all I need to know to shape my opinion of what SWTOR can/might/will be. I don’t need to know specifics about the game itself — I’ve never been one to deal in specifics of ANY MMO I play, because I always try to find what’s good in the game and to downplay the negatives. It’s worked fine for me thus far.
I will certainly be playing SWTOR, I know that for a fact. How can I not? It’s a Big Deal(tm) and any MMO blogger worth his or her salt MUST play it. They are compelled to do so by the very nature of their perferred platform.

I figure this is the only time we have to be passionate about SWTOR. SWTOR is like a baby in it’s mothers tummy. As parents we talk to the baby and love it. We touch the mother’s tummy and dream the great times we will have with our new baby. We will soecualate who’s eyes, hair, or nose the baby will have. We dream how beautiful or baby will be and know how we will teach it to be the best baby in the world.
Then, the baby is born and it is nothing like we dreamed, but we still love the baby. As we spend time playing with the baby we find faults and get mad at the baby. We never dreamed a baby would be like this. No matter how hard we try the baby has a mind of it’s own, but we still love the baby. No matter what we think of the baby when it grows up and does things we never expected, we will always remember how great it was to touch a pregnant belly and speak of our dreams about our perfect child.
Hype is our baby

It’s nice to have something to look forward too. It’s fun to get others excited about something they new nothing about.
I can’t wait to say in a few years ” ya back in vanilla TOR..” I can’t wait to start my own guild, even if no one but me and my family are in it just to say in the future “this guild is one of the oldest and still going strong the game.” hehehe
The games is months away and I am tuning in daily to the message boards and just enjoying myself. Reading the speculations on how the classes will play is very entertaining for me. Knowing people love the Starwars universe as much as I do and wanting it to succeed is a great feeling.

TOR is an interesting beast. I will surely pre-order and play it at launch, but I don’t really want to follow the game. The Story is highlight of the game and I don’t want to take any chances and ruin it. Beyond basic mechanics, I am trying to keep away

I wouldn’t say I’m hyped, but I’m definitely positively excited about SWTOR. I’m optimistic, but also realistic. I once wrote a similar post to yours discussing hype, “Preconceptions are what’s dangerous, not anticipation and general excitement. And so long as my interest is still there, I’m not going to ruin it by making a wishlist of my “requirements”.” Basically, I know what I want from an MMO, but I’m also not so deluded to demand Bioware cater to all my personal wants and needs with TOR. Knowing that I love MMOs, I love Bioware, and I love Star Wars is enough for me to look forward to this game.

I just hope that TOR can bring alot of bloggers, and readers together to maybe play in a guild together. It is the best opportunity for everyone to pick a server together, and level up together.
I just hope that GW2 doesn’t decide to release at the same time because for some reason I am more hyped up about it just from all the mmo game changing things coming into the game. I played SWG so the hype for TOR is there, but it will probably feel like I played it before. Also if TOR has no pvp it will be an instant turnoff.

Eh, ever since I over-hyped Aion (I did, BIG time, and I must say I feel rather bad for having done so) I’ve tried to dodge hyping games. That’s not to say I’m no longer excited about video games, because I always am, but I try to keep it more private or just in conversation amongst similar minded people (the Multiplaying crew for example).
I’m not good at imagining things (its one of my deepest disappointments with myself), so I try to make up for it by learning everything I can about a particular subject (in this case, an SWTOR) and then speculating based off that information.
So, my form of “hype” for SWTOR is reading Star Wars Novels, re-watching the movies, and even playing SWG. Essentially anyone who calls themselves a gamer already knows about SWTOR, so rather than hyping to other people, I’ve decided to simply hype myself.

Evidently I also still have a hard-on for commas and parenthesis in my posts. ^_^
