SWTOR: Not going to be negitive

I looked at Star Wars The Old Republic’s social networking experiment numbers today and thought bad things. It doesn’t look like they are going to get 52,000 more Facebook Likes and 10,000+ more Twitter followers in 6 days. It looks like the negative poopy heads have won.

I will still blog about SWTOR everyday this week to honor their effort to feel out their future player-base. I just wish huge sites like Darth Hater or Massively plugged this a bit more. I know they have bigger fish to fry, but it would have been nice to see little reminders at the bottom of all SWTOR posts.

The announcement could have been really cool. I know they are going to announce it anyways at sometime, but it would have been cool to see it announced because the community pulled through. Well maybe, BioWare will just email it to me (SCARYBOOSTER [at] GMAIL [dot] COM) because I gave my 110%? I can dream can’t I?

It brings me to the question: What would the announcement have been if they got their numbers? I have a few ideas, and here they are:

1. More information on PvP. Another Warzone or what kind of PvP rewards there are.

2. A full breakdown of one class’s advanced skill tree. Most likely the Smuggler

3. How travel from planet to planet will work. Do we always have to go to our ship or is there a “beam me up Scotty” button.

4. What will be in the Collector’s Edition box.

5. More playable races revealed.

Whatever it was, we might never know. I’m hoping for 52,000 more Facebookers (sounds like something you pick out of your nose) and 10,000 more Tweeters, but how fast the numbers have slowed, I am becoming negative. No matter what, we will find out at sometime. Maybe, it was best that we failed at this test. Imagine if the announcement sucked and how much of a letdown this would have been.

I’m really excited about SWTOR. I enjoyed SWG for several years and know SWTOR will be right up my ally. I can’t wait to hear more juicy information that comes out this weekend with Comic Con. We also have PAX to look forward too. Before we know it, we will be playing it and drooling over some other MMO coming out in the future (looking at Blizzard). I do declare myself the #1 fan of SWTOR so far. I had my kids dub me Sir Scarybooster, the Jedi Knight, this weekend with a lightsaber. Don’t make me force choke you into following SWTOR on their social networking sites!

My guess is announcing a site similar to Road-to-WAR.com before Warhammer was released, or the Facebook game Kill Drill or whatever it was.

Sorry if I’m one of the negative poopyheads. I have absolutely nothing against SWTOR. I *am* however getting sick of the whole “follow me on {insert social media}” campaign frenzy and have decided not to jump on those bandwagons.

If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

Well, I like you Ysharros! I also get annoyed by the “follow me” trend that is the new fad going around. I do wish SWTOR did something different. Something like WAR did by involving the community. A simple “Follow me” is the cheapest way to get a feel for the community. It’s all about the social sites these days. They should have involved the bloggers it makes for a stronger community even if it doesn’t give them concrete numbers.
